Our Emergency Services department has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director. The Emergency Services Department is committed to providing individuals, families, and communities with resources to ensure safety and security during a disaster by engaging with, educating, and providing direct services to those affected by or at risk of natural disasters like floods, fires, earthquakes, droughts, and pandemics.

 

As the Assistant Director, you will support the Director, provide general management and assistance with one or more of the Emergency Services programs, and participate in the organization’s overall management. Engaging with and educating our most vulnerable populations of the San Joaquin Valley with vital information about natural disasters like floods, fires, earthquakes, drought, and pandemics. SHE’s Emergency Services Team is committed to providing individuals, families, and communities with resources that will ensure safety and security during a disaster. The position will require some night and weekend and field-based work.

Responsibilities


  • Assist with implementing, planning, and developing comprehensive Climate and disaster-related programs.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to program staff.
  • Assist the Director in supervising program staff and implementing programs in accordance with SHE's values and mission.
  • Represent SHE to partner agencies and participants.
  • Prepare required internal and external activity and progress reports.
  • Assure compliance with SHE policies and quality and cost standards at all program levels.
  • Coordinate activities with other SHE programs effectively.
  • Maintain effective communication with SHE partners, funders, and regulators in a way that furthers positive working relationships.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
  • Create and manage grants and budgets.
  • Create and implement programs.



Must Haves


  • Four-year college degree (preferably in Environmental Sciences or Hydrology) or 5+ years of work experience focusing on water resource management/land use planning/hydrology.
  • Five years of progressively more responsible administrative and management experience with experience in grants management.
  • Demonstrated technical, management, and administrative experience and expertise appropriate to the specific program area(s).
  • Strong computer skills, experience with spreadsheets and presentation software, and familiarity with databases.
  • Initiative and good judgment.
  • Ability to work compatibly with the Director, CEO, and peers, as well as with staff and persons representing government agencies and the public.
  • The ability to communicate well with diverse groups and individuals orally and in writing.
  • Empathy for the housing and community needs and desires of low-income persons.
  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing.
  • A commitment to preserving and promoting SHE's purpose and philosophy, particularly as expressed in the Statement of Values.
  • Strong technical, management, and administrative experience in all Emergency Services climate and disaster-related work, Sustainable Groundwater Management, and Climate Change, Adaptation, and Resiliency.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to think and react quickly under pressure.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • An appropriate vehicle for work use is required.
  • A valid California driver's license and current automotive liability insurance are required.
  • Willingness to travel throughout and outside of the SHE service area.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.
