Empowering Families through Resident Services
Empowering Families through Resident Services
Posted on September 4, 2024
As we celebrate 60 years of service in the San Joaquin Valley, Self-Help Enterprises (SHE) continues to expand its mission beyond providing affordable housing. Our Resident Services program is a key part of our holistic approach to community development, enhancing the lives of families across our 55 rental housing communities. Since its inception, SHE has been committed to not only providing homes but also creating opportunities for our residents to thrive, offering programs that support education, health, financial stability, and overall well-being.
The foundation of our Resident Services began with the vision of providing a safe, supportive environment for residents and their children. Over the decades, this vision has grown into a comprehensive set of services designed to help residents gain the skills and resources they need to build better lives. Whether it’s through our after-school programs that offer homework assistance and arts education for children, or adult education classes in General Education Development (GED) and English as a Second Language (ESL), SHE provides a wide range of programs to promote learning and growth for all.
Our commitment to residents also includes health and wellness initiatives, such as Zumba-style exercise classes, nutrition programs, and free health fairs. By working with local health clinics and community organizations, we help residents access critical health screenings, preventive care, and healthy living resources. Additionally, the integration of financial education, citizenship classes, and job training into our Resident Services program ensures that families have the tools they need to achieve financial independence and long-term stability.
In recent years, SHE has taken on a more active role in ensuring housing stability for residents who have experienced homelessness. Through direct case management and coordinated services, we work with households to support their transition into stable housing and prevent future housing insecurity. This is just one example of how our Resident Services offerings have evolved to meet the changing needs of our communities, creating lasting impact and ensuring that housing is just the first step toward a brighter future.
