Assistant Director Community Development
Salary: $8,419 – $11,283 monthly

The Community Development Department is pleased to announce an opening for a second Assistant Director of Community Development. As the Assistant Director, you will play a crucial part in our operations, reporting directly to the Director of Community Development. Your responsibilities will include supervising, supporting, and training the staff team working on SGMA and MLRP issues and providing operational and program support to the Director. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of our projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with implementing, planning, and developing programs to support rural community engagement in regional planning such as SGMA and MLRP.
- Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to program staff.
- Assist the director in supervising program staff and implementing programs following the values and mission of SHE.
- Assist in preparing funding proposals.
- Manage grants and contracts; assign program staff to fulfill commitments.
- Develop written SHE positions and responses to proposed policies, planning documents, and other public-facing correspondence.
- Represent SHE to partner agencies and participants.
- Prepare required internal and external activity and progress reports.
- Assure compliance with SHE policies and quality and cost standards at all program levels.
- Effectively coordinate activities with other SHE programs.
- Maintain effective communication with SHE partners, funders, and regulators in a way that furthers positive working relationships.
- Perform other duties as required by the supervisor
Must Haves
- Demonstrated technical, management, and administrative experience and expertise appropriate to the specific program area(s).
- Strong people-management skills; commitment to support and coach staff to reach their potential
- Knowledge of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (required) and the Multi-Benefit Land Repurposing Program (preferred) and their implementation in the San Joaquin Valley.
- Strong computer skills and experience with spreadsheets, presentation software, and database familiarity.
- Initiative and good judgment.
- Ability to work compatibly with the Program Director, CEO, and Director of Operations, as well as with staff and persons representing government agencies and the public.
- The ability to communicate well with groups and individuals orally and in writing.
- Empathy for the housing and community needs and desires of low-income persons.
- Demonstrated success in proposal writing.
- A commitment to preserving and promoting the purpose and philosophy of SHE, mainly as expressed in the Statement of Values.
- An appropriate vehicle for work use is required.
- Willingness to travel throughout the SHE service area.
