Disaster Resiliency Specialist



Salary: $25.76 – $39.96 hourly

As an Emergency Services Disaster Resiliency & Prep Specialist, you will work closely with low-income rural residents to educate and train them on resiliency-focused programs. You will also have the essential function of serving with advocacy, public speaking, and technical assistance regarding the needs of rural, low-income people in implementing resiliency education and training.

Responsibilities


  • Educate various local populations on resiliency and preparation programs and techniques.
  • Conduct outreach in communities with high hazard risks.
  • Organize event giveaways within the program scope and budget.
  • Research disaster resiliency programs and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate outreach counts and documentation.
  • Work with local communities to apply disaster resiliency and preparedness techniques and practices.
  • Develop and present a curriculum based on current best practices concerning disaster resiliency and preparation.
  • Assist in marketing and education materials design.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the California State Water Resources Control Board, Cal OES, various local CBOs, and other partners.
  • Prepare reports and other written assignments as requested by the Program Manager for Emergency Services.
  • Work with federal, state, county, regional, non-profit, and other groups to assist with resiliency and preparation projects.
  • Assist other Emergency Services staff when needed.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.



Must Haves


  • Appropriate combination of education, skill, and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and work tasks with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with public and private agency officials.
  • Ability to present educational material to various populations, including farmworkers, low-income, and other community groups.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) may be required for some positions.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the service area.
  • A valid California Driver’s License and current automotive liability coverage are required.
  • An appropriate vehicle for work use.
